Happiness in Leadership

📢 Bring happiness to your leadership. We often underestimate the power of happiness. When I was asked by Forbes for tips for executives on the job hunt, I said focus on a role that brings you joy.

Happy leaders possess the unique ability to inspire and uplift their teams. They are outstanding motivators and serve as excellent mentors. They set high standards and recognizing the efforts made to meet these expectations.

💗 The well-being of your team significantly influences both your individual success and that of your organization. It's a fact that employees who are happier and more engaged put in 57% more effort. Moreover, companies that boast high engagement levels see three times the profit and enjoy 22% higher returns for shareholders.

❓ There is a lot of confusion about what happiness is, why it matters to leaders and how to maximise it for competitive advantage. Defining happiness is subjective and varies by individual. Although a universal definition is hard to pin down, in the workplace, happiness is often linked to increased engagement, motivation, and a sense of joy among managers and employees.

Many groups, including organizations aim to measure and improve happiness. Despite efforts to increase happiness and well-being, less than 25% of people worldwide feel engaged, and under 17% report high well-being levels.

Research shows few leaders excel at fostering team enthusiasm. Theories like transformational and authentic leadership aim to address this, but turning an average person into a transformational leader requires extensive training.

If you're not a naturally happy leaders, here are a few ways to inject a bit of happiness into your workplace:

⭐ Get work/life balance right Ensuring employee happiness is key to a positive company culture. Understand their views on workload and rewards to improve their work process. Show your team that their input matters and creating a positive work environment is a priority.

🤩 Give employees a purpose People engage more when they have a clear purpose. Managers should explain the reasons behind tasks to foster a sense of purpose, not just issue orders. Regular meetings to discuss strategy and connect it to the company's mission can boost productivity and motivation.

💷 💰 Invest in your teams Offering jobs that support personal and team growth greatly affects how employees see their roles. It's essential to give your team chances to learn new skills and invest in their development.

🗣 Encourage communication Encourage team communication by fostering an environment where everyone feels safe to share. This approach benefits both newcomers and seasoned employees, enriching the team with diverse perspectives.

💃🏽 Have some fun! Even fulfilling jobs can have stressful moments. Effective leaders focus on employee engagement, working to enhance enjoyment and camaraderie both inside and outside the office, which strengthens team bonds. #happyleaders #workplaceculture #leadershipcoach
